Care Tips for Handmade Baskets, Purses, and Home Decor

At Ansah Co., we’re proud to offer beautiful, handmade Bolga baskets, wicker baskets, and home decor items, all crafted by skilled artisans. To ensure that your new treasures last a lifetime, proper care is essential. Below, we share our best tips on how to reshape and maintain your baskets and accessories.

Reshaping Your Basket

Handmade products have a unique beauty, especially those crafted from natural materials like Bolga baskets and handmade accessories. Proper care helps these artisanal items last for years while retaining their charm. Follow our care guide to keep your wicker baskets, purses, and home decor in perfect condition.

  • 1. Wet Your Basket

Moisten your basket with water using a shower head, tap, spray bottle, or by submerging it. This will help make the natural grass fibers more flexible. If your basket has leather handles, keep the leather dry to prevent staining.

  • 2. Let the Basket Rest

Once the basket is wet, allow it to rest for 5-10 minutes. This will soften the fibers and make the reshaping process smoother.

  • 3. Push Out & Unfold

If your basket was folded, gently unfold it and push out any creases using your hands. Place one hand inside the basket and the other on the outside, carefully pressing to reshape it.

  • 4. Gently Shape

Gently push your basket into shape using your hands (one hand on the inside and the other on the outside). For tougher creases, you can bend the basket in the opposite direction of the crease.

  • 5. Shake & Dry

Shake out excess water and let dry completely before using. This generally takes about 1 to 4 hours. Make sure to dry your basket somewhere with good airflow, and make sure it dries completely to avoid mold. Also, be aware of possible dye transfer when the basket is wet.

  • 6. Store Your Basket:

To maintain your basket’s shape and prevent future creases, store it in a cool, dry place. Avoid stacking heavy objects on top of it and keep it away from moisture, which can cause mold.

  • General Care and Maintenance:

To keep your handmade products looking their best for years to come, follow these simple care tips:

    • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure can cause fading.
    • Regular Dusting: Use a dry cloth or a soft brush to remove dust. For deeper cleaning, use a damp cloth and gently wipe the surface.
    • Proper Storage: Store your baskets in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture buildup and maintain their structure.
